Let's Choose Community This Christmas

Maybe this Christmas, as our country burns, as heart break and loss sweeps through beautiful communities and petrified land creatures suffer and perish, we change our approach to gifting.

Christmas with all its wonderful times also comes with a darker side. Excitement takes over, we lose sight of the essence of Christmas and buying gifts is done in gross, mindless excess. Christmas waste from unnecessary, unwanted, thoughtless gifts is insane. It's consumerism at its ugliest.

But we could make gifting so beautiful this year. And feel a little more connected to our land, to our people and to our fellow earth creatures.

Maybe when choosing what to gift our loved ones we could include a donation to bushfire ravaged communities. That way we gift the special people in our lives with the beautiful gift of helping another.

Maybe it's making a monetary donation on their behalf - the list of organisations in need is devastatingly endless. Maybe it's buying food and medical supplies for injured wildlife and gifting on their behalf - there are so many incredible, selfless carers saving precious little furry lives out of their own pockets.

Our country is so beautiful, and we are just so lucky to call it home but our home is going through a really hard, devastating time. It's overwhelming, it's confusing and for me the experience of those directly affected is unimaginable.

Happiness can come from the act of gifting another, but giving someone a gift that goes on to help others is even more wonderful!

A strong sense of community is so powerful. And it is so needed right now. We have the chance this Christmas to turn the ugly of consumerism on its head and instead celebrate the beauty of community.

Let's share this idea and choose our country this Christmas 💛
